The New HSE Guide – Asbestos The Survey Guide (HSG264) gives some clear and simple guidance on checking the competence of the asbestos surveyor.  It has to be said that when employing a non-UKAS Accredited company, things become a lot more long winded as a lot, if not all the different criteria should all be checked by the company as part of their internal procedures. Accreditation: Ensuring technical competence

The accreditation process determines the technical competence and integrity of organisations providing inspection, testing, calibration and certification services. UKAS is the sole national accreditation body, recognised by Government, to assess these types of organisations against international standards. It provides an independent and authoritative declaration that the organisation carrying out the survey has the people, facilities, technical expertise, management systems and track record to undertake the activity professionally and competently.

“HSE strongly recommends that an accredited surveyor is used to carry out complex type 1, 2 and 3 surveys”
